Cars in German City Discovered Smeared with Nazi Symbols in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Police
Officers reported they were contacted by a resident who noticed a vehicle in Hanau smeared with red-colored substance

Approximately fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm police.

Automobiles, building surfaces and postboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Police state they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday evening, when a individual observed that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.

The substance had been placed in the form of a swastika, they added.

Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and house walls in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.

Officials state early analysis indicate the fluid was likely human bodily fluid.

"Currently there is no indication as to its origin; investigators are not yet aware of any injuries in association with the event," they commented.

Local authorities announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.

An important official commented the incident left him stunned and had to be resolved quickly.

"This act affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the right-wing violent incident five years ago," he wrote on social media, recalling the death of nine people by a shooter targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
