Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been won on hard courts

A resurgent Daniil Medvedev won his initial championship for 882 days with victory over opponent Moutet in the tournament title decider.

The athlete, a former number one, has endured a torrid period, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and issues with his service game in specific - led to him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has gradually progressed in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Success also means Medvedev has achieved twenty-one victories at twenty-one different competitions.

"It's the first time I am participating in a tournament with my two daughters together, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I won when my older daughter Alisa was born was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had lost his previous six title deciders, comprising in the German tournament earlier this year.

Medvedev's defensive play style and frequent outbursts on court had led commentators to wonder if his skill to compete at the elite level was over.

Yet the athlete has made changes in the past month, striving to approach the net and compete positively, reinforced by an enhanced service.

He came back from a deficit in the initial set against the tricky Frenchman, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.

The competitors exchanged break points in the middle set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour championship, took control to push for a decider.

The opponent saved four initial break points in a competitive deciding set before the Russian secured a break to 15 to secure the win.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the net area, with the Frenchman incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
